The Path
Janet Heron has worked 68 jobs—some honest, some difficult, and some that pushed her to the edge of survival. Her life has taken her from working the streets of Los Angeles as an escort, where she endured violence that nearly ended her life, to managing households for the obscenely wealthy, to teaching elementary school even after experiencing the devastating loss of a 12-year-old student to suicide. Along the way, she has seen the full spectrum of human nature—its cruelty, its absurdity, and its unexpected moments of grace. What remains is a resilience forged through experience, a relentless work ethic, and a perspective that can only come from a life lived wide open—and the refusal to stay down.
After 45 years of writing in the shadows, with only occasional pieces in niche newsletters, she now steps forward to share a collection of vivid, unflinching stories shaped by blood, sweat, tears, dark humor, and unexpected triumphs. These are not polished lessons or “how-to” guides—just the raw truth of a life lived wide and wild, offered with honesty for anyone willing to see it.
